How to be a Bikram Yogi?
Breathe. Without your breath there is no yoga! Apart from the first and last breathing exercises, breathe in and out through the nose. Breathe calmly, smoothly and continually in and out through the nose. Never hold your breath and remain conscious of your inhaling and exhaling which will keep your mind alert and enable you to explore your practice fully.
Align! Until you've achieved Bikram Yogi status and have the perfect marriage of deep stretch and perfect alignment, it's important to focus on correct alignment. By doing this, the body will open up more quickly and enable you to gain the full benefits of Bikram Yoga which will lead to a deeper stretch. It's not just about how far you can go but all about achieving optimum alignment.
Mediate. As become more experienced in Bikram, your practice will resemble a 90 minute moving meditation. Your Bikram Yoga practice is all about you and only you and focusing inwards is essential to get the best out of every session.
Create Energy. Though everyone is focused purely on their own yoga, the effect of everyone working together provides a magical group energy that benefits everyone in their Bikram Yoga class.
Stay in the room. To get the maximum benefits from your Bikram Yoga class it is essential that you stay in the room for the full 90 minute session. You'll get the detoxifying benefits of the heat and also help your fellow students to achieve their maximum by reducing the distraction.
