Why the heat?

  • The Bikram Yoga class is heated to 105 degrees to facilitate stretching, prevent injury and increase detoxification. Muscles, fascia and connective tissue become more elastic which allows for greater flexibility and reduced chance of injury

  • The heat warms muscles enabling them to stretch further and burn fat more effectively. Stretching forces fat to redistribute to the blood where it is used as fuel for your Bikram Yoga class - regular practice will result in noticeably leaner muscles

  • Warmer temperatures produce a fluid-like stretch that allows for greater range of motion in the joints, allowing you to bend and stretch like you never thought possible
  • Improves the cardiovascular system as your heart rate is raised significantly. This supports fat burning as the heart rate is consistently raised and lowers during your 90 minute class which burns calories and fat both during and after your Bikram Yoga class

  • Blood becomes thinner which clears the circulatory system. When the body is between three and five degrees above normal temperature, T cell output from the thymus gland is multiplied by more than 20 times which boosts the immune system. Capillaries also dilate in the heat which enables more oxygen to reach your muscles, tissues, glands and organs improving detoxification

  • Higher temperatures improve the function of the nervous system, meaning that messages are carried more rapidly to and from the brain or spinal cord enabling you to think clearer.
